Welcome to Northern Minnesota! Awesome fishing, breath-taking four-season
scenery and home of Voyageurs National Park.
VOYAGEURS NATIONAL PARK was established in 1975 "to preserve for the inspiration and enjoyment of present and future
generations, the outstanding scenery, geological conditions and waterways system which constituted a part of the historic route of
the Voyageurs who contributed significantly to the opening of the Northwestern United States.”
Voyageurs contains 218,054 acres, with 134,265 acres of land and 83,789 acres of water. The topography of the park is rugged and
varied; rocky outcrops are interspersed with many calm bays, occasional rugged shorelines, sand beaches, rocky points and
pine-studded islands, bogs, beaver ponds, swamps, small lakes and five large lakes, each with thousands of acres of clean, refreshing
water. This is the southern part of the Canadian Shield, representing some of the oldest exposed rock formations in the world.
This bedrock has been shaped and carved by at least four periods of glaciations.
The true "star of the north" is the area's extensive system of waterways. Travel a 50+ mile route from Kabetogama's
west end to the southern tip of Crane Lake. Or portage at Kettle Falls and dip into Rainy Lake. You'll never find more
beautiful water-filled scenery anywhere! Pine tree covered islands, rock ledges overlooking areas of cool, clear water,
fantastic fishing for numerous species in every lake...yours to explore.
